Prospekt’s March Review

For those who were not aware, Coldplay released a new EP this week entitled, “Prospekt’s March.” Prospekt was actually the rumored title of their newest album which actually released as “Viva la Vida.”

So, as you all have been eagerly anticipating from me, here is a review of the EP in no particular order.

The EP consists of 8 songs and video of Viva la Vida. Several of the songs are remakes of songs already on the latest album with a few twists.

“Lost+” is performed with Jay-Z, definitely a different sound for both Coldplay and Jay-Z. I’m not convinced it’s the best match, but it makes for fun listening, I mean if you’re into rap and all that.

As for the “Lovers in Japan” mix, nothing really new there. Odds are you won’t even notice the difference between the EP version and the album version unless you listen to them back-to-back.

“Life in Technicolor II” is different in that it now has lyrics!!! I love the jam they do for this song on the album, but the lyrics add a whole new dimension to the song. Definitely a great addition.

“Postcards from Far Away” is literally just an interlude; some soft piano for classics lovers. Maybe they are trying to secretly appeal to an older generation, not to say that only old people like classical music.

“Rainy Day” is a different sound for them. The only thing that makes it Coldplayesque is that violin/synth sound they have coined and Chris Martins voice. It actually sounds like a Beck song most of the time.

“Prospekt’s March” overall is a good jam. Real soothing, well produced, and a just plain good sound.

“Now My Feet Won’t Touch the Ground” is very reminiscent of “Kingdom Come” from their X & Y album in 2005. It’s a short song and I think it was intended to add depth to their new version of “Life in Technicolor II” as the lyrics are similar.

Finally, I have to say I lied, kind of. I said that the songs were in no particular order, but I most definitely saved the best for last.

“Glass of Water” may be their best song since 2005. Personally, I might even put it in my top 5. Musically its brilliant. This song is so beautiful that you could turn it up as loud as it could go, and the piercing awesomeness of the notes would cut a hole in the cloud cover above causing a ray of sunshine so pure the angels would bathe in it to shine upon you wherever you may go. Maybe that’s slightly exaggerated, but its a pretty solid song.

All that being said, if you are going to buy just one song, buy “Glass of Water.” If you are going to buy 2 songs, buy the whole album.

Jesus Found Me

In a spur of the moment type thing, I wrote and recorded another video earlier tonight. I wanted to do something fun, twangy if possible, almost old country hymn style.

This was the result…

My Celebrity Look-alikes

Look-A-Likes

I think this is pretty funny and Im a little sad Leo DeCaprio didn’t come up 😦

Hold On (A Greater Hope)

After a couple weeks, I decided to finally record another song. So here it is…its called “Hold On (A Greater Hope)” .

Life is full of blessings in disguise

The darkest clouds reveal the bluest sky

He’s wiped away our past and set you free

This is our greater hope
When waters rise and you can barely breathe

And dark surrounds and you can barely see

Hold on, when life begins to slip out of your hands

Hold on, when your world turns to grey

Hold on, a greater hope belongs to those who wait upon the Lord
When you feel like this worlds turned its back on you

Believing that there’s nothing you can do

Our father longs to meet us where we are

This is our greater hope

Bond, James Bond

I decided I am going to do a pre- and post-Bond release blog post. For the pre-post, I have to say that while I think Daniel Craig is a great actor, suited for action films, he doesn’t seem like “Bond” to me. He seems like a high-thrills, well-built, good looking action hero.

I consider myself a huge Bond fan and have seen all the movies more times then I can remember. Based on that, I would say Bond as a character is centered around his ability to be suave. He does not rely on his strength, but rather his wit and his charm. Granted, its nice to watch the pretty stunts, but where is the Bond that used to order the Dom Perignon and caviar, followed by oyster chasers and champagne?

After the movie, I’ll have to write about what I think. Maybe I’ll get to see the suave, easy-going side of James Bond that I have come to miss…

Election Day

Well, yesterday was an exciting day. It was historic to say the least and I think I experienced a gamit of emotions from spine tingling, to excited, to proud tears, and also a little fear. But come on, who wouldn’t be slightly afraid of what the future holds (Im not talking Nightmare on Elm Street scared).

The thing that frustrates me most now is facebook. I don’t even remember if we had facebook last election, but I can’t even express how dissapointed/frustrated/borderline angry I have gotten (in private of course) due to some of the statements made on facebook by many people I know, or at least thought I knew. From Prop 8 to the Presidency, the ignorance level seemed unmatched at times. No person has the right to fault another person for their beliefs if they are informed.

Most of all, its as if we have forgotten how amazing it is that we even have the chance to vote and live within a democracy. Now we deject people for voting a certain way and discredit their beliefs, I’ve even seen people discount others faiths because of the way they were choosing to vote.

My hope is that this will subside soon. Our President elect has some big promises to make good on, but he recognizes the work that needs to be done which is a perfect start (see Obama’s acceptance speech).

That’s it for now…thanks to everyone for voting, this was an election not to be missed. HISTORY!!!!!

Credit Swap Crisis

There was an interesting story on 60 minutes last night. Several economists, some lawyers, and even professors weighed in on the current economic crisis. Everyone has an opinion and solution in hindsight I guess. Basically what they describe is gambling and I can’t believe this bill ever passed, but it did. It was motivated by greed and lots of people benefitted from this. However, it also helped lead us into the position we are currently in.

Im not sure where I stand on government regulation frankly because I dont understand it well enough to have a valid opinion, but in my mind, these are the types of loopholes that we need to clean up. Whoever our next President is, I hope they can get us back on the right track.

7-Election Results

First of all, Im not creative enough to come up with a witty title like this on my own; so know that those marketing guru’s came up with this themselves. Second, barring that there is no correlation between vas amounts of coffee consumption and democrats, this is pretty amazing to look at.
